Partnership between STEP and Whiskey House

Distilling Innovation with Resilient IT & OT

See how STEP helped Whiskey House of Kentucky build a resilient IT and OT infrastructure designed to support automated production, operational continuity, and future growth.

Building a Resilient Foundation for Bourbon Production

Whiskey House of Kentucky was developing a highly automated production environment, but its early infrastructure presented a critical risk. Servers depended on single points of failure, meaning one switch outage could potentially bring down the entire on-premises environment. As the operation prepared to scale, greater resiliency became essential to maintaining production and supporting long-term growth.

STEP implemented a comprehensive infrastructure overhaul spanning network infrastructure, Wi-Fi, NIC teaming and SMLT configuration, security, and managed services. The result is a scalable IT backbone built to support Whiskey House’s high-volume production environment with greater redundancy, reliable connectivity, and 24/7 support.

The Technology Behind a Resilient Operation

Supporting large-scale automated production required an infrastructure designed for more than connectivity. STEP engineered an integrated environment focused on availability, security, operational visibility, and scalability across Whiskey House’s growing campus.

Designed for an Always-On Production Environment

In an automated production operation, infrastructure availability is critical. Whiskey House needed to reduce the risk created by single points of failure while maintaining reliable connectivity across its production environment and rickhouses.

STEP built a more resilient architecture with redundant network configurations, expanded Wi-Fi coverage, and approximately 175 devices supporting security, monitoring, and door access. Combined with managed services and 24/7 support, the new infrastructure gives Whiskey House a stronger foundation for continuous operations.

Infrastructure Built to Scale with Production

Whiskey House’s infrastructure now supports large-scale automated production and future growth, while providing greater visibility into process disturbances so issues can be identified and addressed quickly. With production expected to double, more than 30 additional rickhouses under construction, and plans for a private 5G network across its 176-acre campus, the technology foundation is positioned to scale alongside the operation.
